Local emergency plan
- Describe the components of a plan.
- Identify the risk factors to be considered for disaster planning.
- Identify the basic requirements for effective coordination.
Planning levels
- Identify the different levels of planning for disasters.
- Help families prepare a contingency family plan.
- Recognize theimportance of a personal disaster planning as well as planning by fellow team members, other professionals and health centers.
- Identify ways that schools can be better prepared to protect and support children in the event of a disaster.
- Identify how shelters should plan to meet the special needs of children.
Management of emergencies and the care of multiple victims
- Be familiar with the basic components of a system for the care of multiple victims.
- Understand the roles of the specific persons involved in the system of care for multiple victims.
- Be familiar with the multi-sector rescue chain from the site of the incident to the hospital.
- Recognize the importance of thedocumentation and recording of patients in the chain of care.
- Understand the triage algorithms and be able to apply them.
- Recognize the differences between the adult and pediatric triage algorithms (START and JumpSTART).
