• Identify the different levels of planning for disasters.
• Help families prepare a contingency family plan.
• Recognize theimportance of a personal disaster planning as well as planning by fellow team members, other professionals and health centers.
• Identify ways that schools can be better prepared to protect and support children in the event of a disaster.
• Identify how shelters should plan to meet the special needs of children.

Management of emergencies and the care of multiple victims

• Be familiar with the basic components of a system for the care of multiple victims.
• Understand the roles of the specific persons involved in the system of care for multiple victims.
• Be familiar with the multi-sector rescue chain from the site of the incident to the hospital.
• Recognize the importance of thedocumentation and recording of patients in the chain of care.
• Understand the triage algorithms and be able to apply them.
• Recognize the differences between the adult and pediatric triage algorithms (START and JumpSTART).
